October 17: One Week Till the Fall Summit!

Join us 10/25 at Alamance CC for the 2024 Fall Summit!

We’re excited to again present the Fall Summit at Alamance Community College on Friday 10/25!

This year’s event will take place 9am-3pm, and is jam-packed with content! We hope you’ll join us and help contribute to building a bigger, better Graphic Design curriculum in NC Community Colleges!

Our Keynote guest speaker this year is Elliot Strunk of the ever-incredible 2 Designers Walk in to a Bar podcast. He is currently the Chief Creative Strategist for Honestly, a remote-first, highly-scalable marketing agency and also runs their in-house design shop, Studio H. Outside of the office, he also dabbles in collage art, entrepreneurial ventures and building creative community.

Holy Moly, We Got a New Logo!?

New Year, New Name, New Logo? Yeah, it’s confusing.

In light of the recent change in name, the Advertising & Graphic Design Association is now to be known as…. well… the Graphic Design Association. of North Carolina.

As AGD departments throughout the state navigate the change to the new program name, we thought it best to bring our own identity up to speed to reflect the change. Same student-designed, type-driven brand mark with an updated twist! Hope you like it! Ask an officer for free stickers!

We were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to gather leadership from a majority of AGD programs in the NC system in Wrightsville Beach, NC this spring to talk about allllll sorts of topics. It’s that time of year again, one week away from the 2023 AGDA fall summit! We’re very excited to return to Alamance CC in central NC for this year’s summit!

This year’s theme is: Designing the Future: Exploring New Tools and Technologies in Graphic Design

Our keynote speaker this year is an Adobe Evangelist: Jesse Lubinsky. Jesse is an Education Evangelist for Adobe and has two decades of experience in the education space as an education technologist, teacher, and school administrator. He’s excited to talk to us about how Ai is transforming higher education.

Our keynote speaker this year will be speaking on entrepreneurship in graphic design and we know it’s a topic your students would want to hear about so don’t forget to encourage them to attend (maybe for extra credit😉).

We will also be introducing our new AGDA_NC leadership team and leaving plenty of time to chat about some hot topics in our areas.

October 1, 2021: Fall Summit Details Are Emerging!

Let’s kick off the school year 11/12 with the best Fall Summit yet!

We are gearing up for an awesome AGDA_NC Fall Summit 2021 and hope that you can join us virtually again this year for a morning of info, inspiration and collaboration. We will start with our keynote speaker – Phillip Oakley, VP of Brand Strategy at Sales Factory and move right into introducing our new officers, ending with a “lunch and learn” style round-table discussion.

November 1, 2020: Keynote Speaker Announced

PARADIGM’s Sunny Su Announced as Fall Summit Keynote Speaker!

The AGDA is proud to announced that Sunny Su, of PARADIGM, has generously offered to serve as keynote presenter for our fall summit event Friday Nov. 13!

Sunny is an award-winning executive designer and creative director whose work has brought success and scale to both the earliest ventures and largest of enterprises. He founded Paradigm to take an active role in creating a stronger future for our global community.

Sunny is a Strategic design executive with 10+ years of experience collaborating with global brands: Adidas, Bosch, Coca-Cola, DARPA, Deutsche Bank, Duke University, IBM, Jacuzzi, LG, LinkedIn, Lowe’s, NC State University, SAS Institute, 100’s of startups & SMB’s, and notable accolades in Forbes, Business Insider, Product Hunt, Shark Tank, Now This, Tech Crunch, and more. He currently serves as a Principal at Paradigm.cx, on the Board of the Global Innovation Alliance, and as a Contributor at The Catalyst.

AGDA-NC Spring Conference: Call for Proposals

The AGDA_NC board invites you to submit a proposal to present during our inaugural AGDA-NC Spring Conference. This free one-day virtual event takes place Friday, February 26, 2021 from 8:45 am–4:00 pm.

A presentation session is a 30-minute session that can include one or multiple presenters. Each full 30-minute session is followed by a 15-minute Q&A period. Graphic Design submission topics can include (but are not limited to): AGD teaching, skill development (Adobe software, UX/UI, design research, design thinking, motion graphics), technology, classroom best practices, and educator professional development.

PROPOSAL SUBMISSION DEADLINE: October 29, 2020

SELECTED PRESENTERS WILL BE NOTIFIED NO LATER THAN: November 13, 2020

AGDA-NC Fall Summit Dates Announced

Our 2020 AGDA_NC Fall Summit will take place on Friday, November 13 from 9 am–10:30 am and will be a virtual meeting. During this year’s Summit, the AGDA_NC Executive Committee will unveil our new branding and share updates/reports to the larger body. Look for a registration link during the first week of October, along with a pre-Summit survey. The Summit is free and all full-time and adjunct faculty members are encouraged to attend!

Our 2021 AGDA_NC Spring Conference will take place on Friday, February 26 from 8:45 am–4:00 pm and will be a virtual conference. Much like past years, we will have peer presentations relating to AGD along with a membership meeting to share important updates. This year, the Conference is free and all full-time and adjunct faculty members are encouraged to attend! Look for Call for Proposal information the first weeks of October. We hope you will consider presenting this year!

NCCC Common Course Library Updates for AGD

Help Us Update and Refine the AGD Common Course Library!

Wake Tech’s Alison Consol has put together a short survey for Advertising & Graphic Design Faculty throughout the NC System to help us update the course descriptions in the Common Course Library we all use for our curriculum courses. We’re all in agreement that keeping AGD courses up to date is the only way to keep our students on the leading edge as designers in today’s job market.
